The plot draws inspiration from the novel On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers, which also inspired the Lucas Arts game The Secret of Monkey Island. Disney's press release reads:[3]
“ Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed adventure. Crossing paths with the enigmatic Angelica, he's not sure if it's love—or if she's a ruthless con artist who's using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard, Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn't know whom to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past. ”

Hi! Brian...
Unfortunately, I have not watched any Of the films in the series yet...(with "yet" being the operative word.)I hope that this is the last film in the series and hopefully, all 4 films will be offered in a box-set.

Brian, I did read an article which stated that the director wanted to return to the "formula" used in the original film.

Therefore, this film maybe a winner...However, I'am not sure since I haven't watched any of the films in the Carribean series.

i love johnny depp most in the film "chocolat" - not a big fan of the pirates of the caribean but i like the honesty of the character he's playing..

Hi! Claudia...
I like some Of the characters that actor Johnny Depp, portrayed on film too...Oh! yes, Chocolat is one Of my favorite films that he appeared in along with a film that didn't fare to well...called "The Astronaut's Wife" and I also like him in Burton's "Sleepy Hollow" too!
Claudia, thanks, for stopping by and leaving a comment too!

As you already know
I hate crappy sequels that are just for show
But you have to watch the first
I watched it again last month and it still proves why the others are the worst
As the first one was so well done
And lots of fun
But number 2 and 3
Can just bite me
Don't waste your time
They are just 2 more overbloated pieces of crap not even worth a rhyme
The fourth one at least can't get much worse
Maybe they'll even lift the crappy sequel curse
I hate Penelope Cruz
But if she dies in it then it can't lose
Oh and they are talkign about 5 and 6 too
So yes they will give all 4 in a box set for you
For there will still be one or two more
Now I'll go before I bore

I agree with you, wholeheartedly, I really don't like sequels...For instances, take the film "Legally Blonde" I liked it, but completely, ignored the sequel.

Oh! yes, I'am looking forward to watching the original "Pirate Of Caribbean." Because I read nothing, but "glowing" reviews about the original film.

"The fourth one at least can't get much worse
Maybe they'll even lift the crappy sequel curse..."

You're not along here I know several people who love movies and "despise" remakes and sequels. As a matter Of fact, they wish that Hollywood would "reinvent" and formulate some original ideas when it comes to films.(In other words, They wish that Hollywood would "quit" with the "re-hashing" Of films over and over again.)

"I hate Penelope Cruz..."

I have to second the notion about Cruz, I don't "hate" her as an actress or person, but for some unknown reason I haven't watched any Of her work on film.

"But if she dies in it then it can't lose"
(Laughter!)I'am so sorry, for laughing!

"Oh and they are talking about 5 and 6 too
So yes they will give all 4 in a box set for you

Oh! No, as much as I respect [Johnny] Depp, as an actor...Please stop!

Pat Hatt,
Once again, I thank-you, for stopping by and leaving a very opinionated comment too!

No problem and I followed back
My rhymes I try not to make lack

(stops rhyme mode)

Yeah I don't hate her as a person either, it's just that none of her work really jumps out at me. She's just not one I want to watch.

Yeah the original was one of the best movies to come from Disney in ages, has to be watched. The other two are just like the matrix sequels if you watched them, CRAP.

Yeah I agree I watched Legally Blonde 1 and enjoyed it too, the second pfft just ignored and the 3rd one(some direct to dvd trash) didn't even register.

Disney considers it their cash cow, so they aren't going to stop any time soon, its the same with everything, they beat it into the ground until there is nothing left to beat and then they beat it into the ground some more.

I think they already hired a screen writer to write 5 and/or 6 too as they were talking at one point of making them back to back. Like they did with 2 and 3 and look how that turned out.

Plus I lost some respect for Depp when he made Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, that movie was atrocious. Even if he leaves though, which I doubt, they'll just do what they are doing with Bourne 4 and get a new actor.

But that is one thing that ruins sequels, they just keep trying to go bigger, or make unneccessary ones because the fist made money, ala Hangover 2, Meet the Fockers 2,3 etc. and forget what made the first ones good, just pumping out trash to make money.

Take the Fast and Furious for example, not huge marks on cinema, but ignoring 2 and especailly 3, the 4th and seemingly 5th one aren't trying to be something they aren't, they are just making a movie that people can enjoy and not going bigger, etc. to do it. Granted again the sequels aren't exactly needed, but they are way better than alot of crap, again took them to 4 to get it right..haha

(back to rhyme)

Wow can you tell I watch alot of movies too
While there was my big old comment rant to you

Who Is Afraid of Alfred Hitchcock? said...

Hi! again, Pat Hatt...
"3rd one(some direct to dvd trash) didn't even register..."

I truly "hate" when movie studios attempt the third film with a totally different cast that goes directly to dvd...Once again, not giving the American viewing public credit to differentiate between good and bad films.(sequels)

"Plus I lost some respect for Depp when he made Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, that movie was atrocious. Even if he leaves though, which I doubt, they'll just do what they are doing with Bourne 4 and get a new actor."

I have not had the opportunity to watch the former film, but I must seek it out just to see for myself just how atrocious the film "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," really is...through Netflix,(rental) but Of course...before Amazon.com (purchase)

Oh! yes, they stated over there on Wiki(pedia) no Johnny Depp, no Caribbean films...I don't believe it...just like you said, I think that they will probably "pull" a Bourne.

"Take the Fast and Furious for example, not huge marks on cinema, but ignoring 2 and especially 3, the 4th and seemingly 5th one aren't trying to be something they aren't, they are just making a movie that people can enjoy and not going bigger, etc. to do it. Granted again the sequels aren't exactly needed, but they are way better than alot of crap, again took them to 4 to get it right..."

Unfortunately, all sequels or remakes (with the exception Of Coppola's Godfather Part I and Part II) have a difficult time filling the "shoes" Of the original.

However, I'am glad to read that the some Of "Fast and Furious" sequels appeared to "live" up to the original film.

"Wow can you tell I watch a lot of movies too..."
Which is a good thing...

"While there was my big old comment rant to you..."
Oh! yes, I can tell that you enjoy watching films (and believe me you aren't alone not with all the film blogs that I have visited...Believe me there are film bloggers, who love discussing films too in their comments in detail and I truly enjoy reading their views.

Now, when it comes to your comment I view it just as that a comment and not a "rant."

Pat Hatt,
Thanks, for the comment and sharing...DeeDee ;-D

Yeah I'm sure there are lots of film blogs, but if I start getting into them I'll never do site work or blogs of my own..haha

Yeah agreed I hate when they change the cast, the only thing I can think of where it truly worked was stargate from movie cast to tv cast, everything else it just was a stupid move. Plus almost any remake is stupid, don't even want to go there haha

Some sequels such as Back the the Future 2, the Indiana Jones sequels, Star Wars 2(err umm 5), Shrek 2, Terminator 2 and Toy Story 3 can arguably at least come close to the original. But you're right there aren't many. I discounted Lord of the Rings and Bourne because they were just like one big movie anyway.

As far as Charlie and the Chocolate factory it is completely trash even if you don't factor in it's another crap remake, might wish you never wasted your money on that one..haha

Some direct to dvd sequels have been ok though, War Games 2 comes to mind, just they don't have the cash to actually make them stand out all that great.

With Fast and the Furious, as with everything, one is the best, four lived up to it and 5 looks to. 2 is watchable and 3 should just be forgotten.

Oh yeah speaking of sequels did you hear they are making American Pie what 8 hahaha they surpassed Police Academy now, not sure that is a feat to be proud of though.

Oh! yes, I interview authors on this one particular blog and they talk about films constantly.
(As far as I'am concerned that the one-stop film blog.)

"As far as Charlie and the Chocolate factory it is completely trash even if you don't factor in it's another crap remake, might wish you never wasted your money on that one..."

I'am still going to take a chance and attempt to watch Burton's "Charlie and the Chocolate factory."...I can't use that I haven't been "warned" as an excuse if I don't like the film.

"Oh yeah speaking of sequels did you hear they are making American Pie what 8 hahaha they surpassed Police Academy now, not sure that is a feat to be proud of though."
Fortunately, I haven't watched neither of these films and their "franchises" but your comment is funny!
